Beginners Questions • Re: [Software] Mesa drivers

I've been running Debian 12.5 in a VM (and live test) for a bit now and I'm about ready to actually install it on my system.
If this vm is a libvirt/kvm based install then you can simply write it out to whatever main storage and boot on bare metal.
That ship has long sailed... I used the VM install as a test and so I did everything that one should not be doing. By now I think I created a FrankenDebian deluxe Image may be NSFW.

So when I do install it on bare metal it will be a complete new and fresh installation.

if you accomplish the transition between vm and bare metal, then you have a foundation to attempt building your own video stack. There are many ingredients and such a task will involve rebuilding many more packages than you expect.
Rebuilding a whole bunch of packages is beyond my (current) Linux knowledge and I don't have the amount of spare time available right now to really dig into that.
Too bad one can't backport the mesa 23.x driver. I did throw in some mesa 24.08 drivers from kisak in my VM installation Image may be NSFW.

nothing blew up yet but have not really tested 3D performance or anything.
