Frankly, I doubt that will make a difference but, yes, it would eliminate the issue of download error.... maybe a re-install from another method is in order?
If you go that route, I recommend the Live ISO. Can test in advance whether the mouse problem persists. The Calamares installer is easier and faster than the standard Debian Installer. And a live session is much more useful as a recovery environment. Be sure to save the installation drive. Or, better, use Ventoy. One tip. If you want autologin, don't tick the box in the installer. Instead, enable manually post-installation.
Do give the thread another day or so, to see whether anyone has a useful insight.
