Was nowhere as bad as I imagined it to be.
But, and this is the big question in my mind, was it better? And, if so, how?

I've been down the MX and Devuan paths and despite lots of respect for the MX guys, found Devuan more comfortable, simply because it was just like Debian. But, was it better? Honestly, and subjectively, I really couldn't tell the difference. So I'm interested in other opinions, if only to see where I might have missed in my subjective assessment.
Valid points! For me, I went with Artix. The install was pretty close to what I would do for a vanilla Arch install. I opted for the base image giving me the control one would expect from Arch.
The install was fairly easy and divorcing myself from the acquired norms of systemd to openrc took a a little work. Once doing up a few services, became second nature - you know this though.

Was if better? Like you, I couldn't really tell one way or another either. However, the psych job of not dealing w/systemd seemed to make it all feel just right. Perhaps wishful and wanting, but that's what it was.
I really don't use much from the AUR so 98% of my packages came ported over or from the Arch repos.

So my take-away was simply this, no real difference except the feeling of freedom from sysd. If anyone is indifferent to sysd, then I wouldn't suggest moving away simply because there is work to be done for prep, some reading, and willing to install more than once if you dont take your time. If none of that bothers you, moving away from sysd may be something for you. On the other hand, if you are bent on moving off of sysd, then Void, Devuan, Artix, and Gentoo is a good choice.
