So I had tried nomodeset before, but not that one. The whole thing was messing with me, so I went ahead and fresh installed stable, just cause i've tried so many things. Anyway - I tried that arg, also removed quiet. At that time it would start to boot, but would no longer reset the console window to a higher dpi. It did show the boot output as well, since i killed quiet. The last thing that I saw was that sddm was started - then a few status about wifi and apparmor blocking cups. Ok so here is some weirdness. First of all, I was certain I had read it was a Southern Islands or sea card, but according to wikipedia it;s actually Northern Islands as part of the entry level of the 6000 series, and caicos is listed bit not specifically stated for the card. So i got the xorg logs for both stable and lubuntu and started rooting around. Some, possibly important differences are:
Lubuntu:StableSo it would appear maybe the problem is with that glamor acceleration, maybe? Seems the most stark difference between the systems. Weird that proper accel might screw things up, and the accel not working gives proper resolution, but idk? Both systems detect the card, both show the supported modeline, and both set an initial mode properly.
