Ok, Please explain it to me like I'm new to Linux but I'm required to get a Debian build working. Where do I put this in the boot parameters?

i915.modeset won't actually fix anything. What it probably will do is facilitate troubleshooting and reconfiguration (repairs) on systems with Intel GPUs. Ocassionally it cannot even do that. Using it usually will limit screen resolution to 1024x768 or worse. It has the same impact as nomodeset.
