Thanks a lot, I gave it a try, but unfortunately, it only affects the font size, but not the size of the text boxes and of the other GUI elements.
Yes, on reflection, I had little hope.
I don't use MATE but it might be linked to the theme you are using. Try changing the theme (is this system configured differently than your other systems in this regard?).
If this doesn't work, note that mkvtoolnix-gui uses Qt. Install qt5ct and see if you can change the visual settings through it.
