Ok, here's an update

I restarted laptop with mouse attached, and its working now.

I removed mouse and restarted laptop.

Its still working.

I wonder if there was some kind of power suspend thing going on ?

Rebooting a laptop to get a mouse, and possibly other stuff working is not very 2024...

suggestions welcome.
