Figured out what is going on:
- i915 and Nvidia work poorly when they are used together.
My notebook uses the i915 driver for its monitor, while external monitors (Thunderbolt and HDMI) use the Nvidia driver.
For some weird bug, I could blacklist the i915 and everything looks good.
After a rolled-back i915 to an older version, everything started working again. Whenever I update Nvidia's driver, I have to turn on i915 manually.
The problem is that I'm getting a very poor performance when using both. This is not a new issue.
