Which Debian version is this about?
Which openSUSE version is this about?
ISTR that "need to load the kernel first" is commonly about not finding the kernel to load it, which can mean the relevant filesystem is not supported, and/or secure boot is disallowing access to it. Examine the first stanza in the grub.cfg file on the openSUSE installation, and you'll probably see before the linu line a line that loads a BTRFS filesystem support module. By default, openSUSE has been using BTRFS for the / filesystem for quite some years. Is there a BTRFS module loading line present in the Debian grub.cfg stanza for openSUSE?
I only use the Tumbleweed Grub2, currently v2.12-33, but I don't use secure boot, and I don't use BTRFS either. I have no problem loading Bullseye, Bookworm or Trixie with it.
