It's been a while since I've used a playstation gamepad but I remember that it wasn't difficult to get it working. I think I did mine both through bluetooth and connected via USB and it worked OK. We're going back several years so the newer gamepads may not be supported by the driver. YMMV.
make sure the correct kernel module is loaded or you wont get any events from the USB subsystem.
