On occasion I see threads started by someone having trouble with software I abandoned years ago because I simply don't need them. For example:
1. Display manager of any kind. I am the only one using this machine and don't need frills so I log on from command prompts. I start X by typing sx . (alias sx="startx" in .bashrc)
2. A network manager. I have a simple script in /etc/network/interfaces.
3. Synaptics. I ditched Synaptics at least a dozen years ago. (apt update && apt upgrade)
Anyone have anything to add to the list?
