Hello everyone,
I've been trying to install Debian testing, but have been unsuccessful with any of the ISOs available on Debian's website, with the exception of the live install image using, what I assume is, the Calamares Installer. Each installation attempt with each of the following ISOs has failed at "Installing the Base System":
- netinst CD (testing)
- netinst CD (stable)
- full DVD (testing)
- full DVD (stable)
I go through setting up the timezone, keyboard, user accounts, and partitioning. It starts to install the system and then, about halfway through, it says "Debootstrap warning. Warning: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to five times." I've attached a text file with the installation log the installation made available to me on my network.
I've attempted to troubleshoot this in the following ways, each without success:
- Attempted installation on bare hardware and in a VM to see if there was something about my specific hardware configuration that was running interference.
- Attempted with different installation media (i.e., different USB sticks) in the event that my USB was corrupting the image.
- Attempted with my own partitioning scheme and with the default "Guided" partitioning suggested by the installer.
- Attempted with EFI and without.
In the end, I was able to achieve an installation of Debian testing on bare metal, but, as I said above, only by using the live image and beginning the installation after the live image has loaded a GUI session for me. Then I did an upgrade from stable to testing. This required working around/through some dependency/package issues. I would now like to install Debian testing on a VM but am running into the same problem again.
Any ideas about what is going on here?
Thanks in advance for your help.
