Systemd, no matter what you think of it, too much of anything is never a good thing. IMHO, the more it's fingers are entwined in Linux (in general) the more Linux (as we know it, including userland) becomes less a Linux.
A few years ago, someone I followed, jokingly mentioned (I'm paraphrasing) felt that Systemd would end up being the OS. Systemd should do one or two things and do it well. Not try to be the end-all of everything.
