Graphical Environments & Desktops • Re: Does Gnome updates now use appstream metadata?

Don't know whether this is helpful, but will mention and let you decide whether to pursue or ignore. My main desktop is Cinnamon, which also uses Gnome Software and has the update settings shown in sunrat's screenshot in the other thread. As it happens, I always do updates manually with apt. For many months, I had the frustrating experience of being boxed out often (not always) by a process I hadn't initiated already running apt. I'd open a separate terminal and kill the process. Then my command (in the first terminal) would go through. Don't recall how Software got on my radar screen (I always install apps manually), but once it did, a little light bulb went off and I went looking for the update settings. Once I unticked the auto update and auto notify settings, no more conflicts when I run apt. Don't know the mechanism Software uses, but assume it's a cron job or systemd timer.
