The cursor lag increases to a crawl. If I'm quick enough and start closing out any apps/tabs, then the issue reverts itself. If I take too long, then it will auto-close app(s) itself.How exactly does the crash manifest itself?
Thanks. I solely run Debian throughout my local devices. I have reduced my attack surface levels in other areas (ublock-origin, AdGuard-Home, ufw, Privacy-badger, etc) so hopefully that along w/ being smart about the links I click will reduce my need for it.Both CPU and RAM appear to be in short supply. I'd suggest reverting your changes one at a time until the issue resolves.
Nobody can tell you if you need AV, but if you share files with Windows users it might be worth exploring.
Hope this helps -
I'll start the process of elimination, starting w/ clamav. Thanks!
Gotcha. Thanks for the suggestion. I checked /proc/sys/kernel/modules_disabled and the file just had 0, so looks like that's not the culprit for my laptop but I'll definitely keep an eye on the flag for my server/desktop to see if it messes anything upThe clamav-daemon package on Debian does not configure any automatically running service (unless you count clamav-freshclam). Unless you had gone and manually configured clamonacc realtime scanning daemon, I doubt that clamav is the culprit.
As another user of Lynis, I can say that I've encountered sysctl suggestions which have yielded problems. Try reverting your sysctl changes and see if the issue resolves.
Particularly reverting this setting:Which I'd noted to myself that it "breaks video mode for some reason...". I hadn't investigated any further.Code:
kernel.modules_disabled = 1
