Graphical Environments & Desktops • No KDE Plasma desktop after upgrade

After the usual update followed by upgrade, the desktop disappeared after rebooting. Meaning the Desktop folder no longer displayed, the wallpaper/background was gone, and conky scripts didn't show up. It's just black. (Plasma versions etc at bottom)

Although not exactly: Once there was a little 5cm bit of the desktop in the lowermost right corner. Once a bigger square in the middle of the screen. Once it was as wide as the screen, but almost entirely off it; just a strip along the very bottom. (That's how it is now.)

I got the Start Menu, Task Manager, and System Tray Back after changing the graphic platform to X11. That messed up the sizing and display, but brought those elements back. Another reboot, changing back to Wayland, kept those elements and returned sizing to normal. So at this point I can work normally, but all my reminders, diagnostics, and pretty pics are gone  .

Making a new user returns everything to stock settings. So it looks like it's writing something to some config file or other in /home/me, and displaying my desktop setup mostly offscreen. I've spent days looking and can't figure out which file I should be fixing or what to do.

I hope someone can help!
