I can no longer get into the system to be able to do that. I tried running "sudo apt update" from the command line (or "sudo apt upgrade" - I can't remember now) and it crashed. After the system would no longer boot. So I decided to give the KDE version of Debian a go instead. In doing so, I realised what the issue was with Gnome. I had followed the instructions for install the nvidia drivers from https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
I think I accidentally added the sources from the Debian Unstable "Sid" section.
However, I made sure to follow the correct part of those instructions for KDE and after restart this system won't boot either. It comes up with a message saying "3.736454] systemd[1]: Failed to start systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules."
I could go back to the Gnome version and try installing the correct nvidia sources but I am in 2 minds as having tried both I think I prefer the KDE UI.
